Network Path Performance Requires ICMP

Network Path Performance Not Visible or Complete

In situations where there is no visible network path performance graph you should check that ICMP is enabled in your gateways and routers. Exoprise utilizes TCP/IP and/or ICMP traces to understand the end-to-end network path performance between where a sensor is deployed and where the service that is being monitored is located.

Both trace methodologies require, at a minimum, inbound ICMP messages be enabled. Exoprise will try and compensate for blocked ICMP and determine Round Trip Times (RTT) to a final destination but hop-by-hop discovery will not be available without support for inbound ICMP messages.
